The house was warm. How did a pipe freeze?
Because the house was warm where the heat is. A building heated from one point runs a gradient, and the end furthest from it can sit close to freezing all winter while the living rooms are comfortable. The fixtures at that end are the ones that fail, and the thermostat by the stove says nothing about them.
Only part of the house is affected. Does that make it cheap?

Is a freeze failure in a heated house covered?
