Groundwater & Basement Water Intrusion in Fort Collins, CO
The lowest point in the house is usually the most finished. That combination is what makes below-grade water the most expensive square footage on the estimate. Below-grade losses carry a higher removal share than anywhere else in a house, because the lowest point water reaches is frequently the most finished. Carpet, pad, drywall and trim all meet the floor down there, and saturated porous material at the base of a wall is a removal line rather than a drying one.

Often needed alongside
- Storm & Flood Damage Recovery
Water that arrived from outside prices like any other loss and is usually treated differently by a policy. Both halves matter to the homeowner.
- Structural Drying & Dehumidification
Units times days, ending on a measured reading. The most checkable line on a water estimate, and the alternative to cutting material out.
- Sewage Backup Cleanup
Porous material that has touched it is not dried, it is removed. That single rule is what makes this the dearest water loss at any volume.
Frequently asked questions
The floor is only a few years old. Why can it not be dried?
Because of what is under the surface. Engineered plank and laminate sit on particleboard or OSB, and those swell irreversibly once saturated: the material does not return to dimension however long equipment runs. It is removed as a matter of course rather than metered, which is why that line rarely has a reading beside it.
Which half of the bill is bigger on a newer house?
Usually the rebuild. Newer framing and drywall dry quickly, so the mitigation figure tends to be modest, but the finishes that came out are replaced at current material prices and to whatever specification the homeowner chooses. Ask for the two figures separately; a single total mixing them is difficult to compare.
It was a rental and nobody noticed for weeks. What does that change?
Two things. The scope grows, because contact time moves material out of drying and into removal. And the timeline becomes a coverage question: policies generally treat a sudden discharge differently from something that ran for a long period. Which it was, and what the policy says about it, is for the carrier to decide.
